The R&B world is still in shock over the loss of legendary R&B singer and songwriter Angie Stone, who tragically passed away in a car accident last week. The soulful songstress, known for timeless classics like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” will be honored with two memorial services: one private and one public.
Fans and loved ones will have the opportunity to pay their respects at a public memorial service set to take place at Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral in Austell, Georgia, on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11 a.m. Those who wish to attend must register in advance to secure a spot.
A private memorial service will be held in Columbia, South Carolina, where Stone was born and raised. The intimate gathering will allow close friends and family to grieve in private and celebrate her life away from the public eye.
As previously reported, the heartbreaking accident that took Stone’s life occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning (March 1st) as she traveled back to Atlanta from Alabama. According to reports, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van she was riding in overturned on Interstate 65 around 4:25 a.m., just south of Montgomery, Alabama. Moments later, the van was struck by a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck driven by a 33-year-old man from Texas.
Music producer and longtime manager Walter Millsap III confirmed that everyone else in the van survived, but Stone, unfortunately, did not. She was 63 years old.
Angie Stone was a true powerhouse in R&B and hip-hop, leaving behind an indelible mark on the industry. She first gained prominence as a member of The Sequence, one of the first all-female rap groups, before embarking on a solo career that brought forth anthems like “Brotha,” “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” and “Wish I Didn’t Miss You.”

Following the news of her passing, CIAA Chaplain Pastor Jerome Barber called for a moment of silence, allowing fans and attendees to honor the R&B legend.

MC Hammer shared a video featuring Stone’s song “Brotha,” expressing, “I can’t tell you how many days this song blessed my Soul. R.I.P. Angie Stone.”
