Macy Gray is taking soul, funk, and nostalgic vibes on the road. The Grammy-winning artist announced the North American leg of her ‘On How Life Is’ 25th Anniversary Tour, giving longtime fans a live experience of her iconic debut album.
After a successful run across Australia in summer 2024 and a jammed-packed European/UK leg kicking off this May, Gray is bringing the celebration stateside. Starting July 10 at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California, she’ll illuminate venues across the U.S. and Canada. Stops include Portland, Vancouver, Denver, Chicago, and Houston before wrapping in Los Angeles on August 16.
She took to Instagram to share the update: “Becuz of the incredible response to the Europa 25th anniversary tour, a US leg has been added. Come see us and thank you.”
Tickets for the North American trek went on sale Friday, March 21. Fans overseas can also cop tickets for the European and UK dates.
The tour marks 25 years since Gray released her groundbreaking debut album, On How Life Is, on July 27, 1999. Though it started slow, only moving 20,000 units in its first two weeks, the album went on to light up the charts. It peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA, with more than 3 million copies sold in the U.S. alone.
The album introduced the world to a voice that couldn’t be boxed in. It kicked off with “Do Something,” a funky, socially-charged anthem sampling Nice & Smooth’s 1990 jam “Funky For You” and OutKast’s 1994 motivational cut “Git Up, Git Out.”
But it was “I Try” that elevated Gray into superstardom. The melancholy, melodious ballad became her biggest hit, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and holding the No. 1 spot on the Pop Airplay chart for four weeks. That track earned her a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2001 and nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Now, with the 25th anniversary in full swing, Gray is taking a well-deserved victory lap. She’s performing the entire album live, in sequence, just as she did in Australia, then following it up with more fan favorites from her eclectic catalog.
“When you have a big birthday, you don’t just celebrate that day,” Gray told fans. “To me, this is just as big. I am still celebrating the record and want to invite my fans who have been with me from the start to come party with us.”
