Meek Mill Sends a Wake-Up Call to YNs: ‘Save Yourself First’

Meek Mill has never been the type to sugarcoat reality. From his early days grinding in Philly’s battle rap scene to his multiple stints in prison, the Dream Chasers boss has lived the struggles he speaks about. Now, he is using his platform to send a blunt message to young hustlers (YNs) caught in the cycle of the streets: get out while you can.

Taking to Instagram, Meek dropped a harsh but necessary wake-up call, painting a vivid picture of life behind bars.

“To all the young bulls in the street … if you don’t know how to communicate with a lawyer about law… if you don’t have family support …if you don’t have money to fight case or eat… the law library gonna scare you if you can’t read good! Imagine this being your toilet for the rest of your life … it’s rusty and it’s the same water you drink! If you got a chance to slide, ‘leave that shit behind.’ SAVE YOURSELF THEN TRY TO HELP YOUR PEOPLES! THESE TOILETS FOR ‘HEATHENS ONLY.'”

Meek’s message is direct, urgent, and filled with the hard-earned wisdom of someone who has been through it all.

A few rappers chimed in on Meek’s message: Rappe Game said, “Tell blogs post this type of time !!!!” Big Sean added, “On God. That verse bout ya Dad n that sentiment was so special too bro.” Bobby Shmurda claims, “Prevention before cure.”

Meek’s relationship with the criminal justice system is no secret. His legal battles, stemming from a 2008 arrest when he was just 19, have been widely documented. The rapper spent over a decade trapped in the system due to technical violations of his probation, including a controversial two-to-four-year prison sentence in 2017 for popping a wheelie on a dirt bike. The public outcry was massive, with celebrities, activists, and even politicians calling for his release. His case became the poster child for the injustices of America’s probation and parole system.

But Meek did not just fight for himself, he turned his struggle into purpose. Alongside billionaire entrepreneur Michael Rubin and other influential figures, he co-founded the Reform Alliance, an organization dedicated to transforming probation and parole laws in the U.S. Since its launch in 2019, Reform Alliance has helped pass legislation in multiple states, impacting thousands of lives by reducing probation sentences and preventing unjust re-incarceration.

Beyond legal reform, Meek has put his money where his mouth is when it comes to uplifting his community. Every holiday season, he makes sure struggling families in Philadelphia do not go without, donating millions worth of gifts, groceries, and necessities. Last Christmas, he teamed up with Fanatics and local organizations to distribute toys, sneakers, and coats to families in need.

His efforts do not stop at seasonal giveaways. Meek has consistently invested in Philly’s youth, covering bail for incarcerated fathers so they can be home with their kids, paying off legal fees for people caught in the system, and even launching scholarship funds for underserved students.

Meek has seen firsthand how the system swallows young Black men whole, stripping them of their freedom, their potential, and their dignity. By speaking directly to the YNs, the young bulls in the trenches, he is hoping to reach them before it is too late.

His message is clear: if you have a chance to escape the streets, take it. And once you are free, turn around and help the next person climb out.
