Playboi Carti’s latest album, Music, released on March 14, 2025, has achieved massive success in its first week. The 30-track project debuts number one on the Billboard 200 chart, earning approximately 298,000 equivalent album units.
‘Music’ marks Carti’s second consecutive album to top the chart, following his 2020 release, Whole Lotta Red. The album’s streaming performance was particularly impressive, with songs from Music accumulating a total of 384 million on-demand streams. This represents the largest streaming week for an album since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department in May 2024.
Internationally, ‘Music’ has also dominated the charts. In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at number one on the Official Albums Streaming Chart, marking Carti’s first chart-topping release in the UK. Additionally, the album secured the top position in Australia, New Zealand, and Iceland, and achieved top-five placements in countries such as Belgium, Germany, and Italy.
Despite the album’s success, Playboi Carti has expressed disagreement with the reported first-week sales numbers. He took to social media to voice his frustration, suggesting that the official figures did not accurately reflect the album’s performance. Responding to a post on X from Akademiks reporting its 298,000 units, Carti claimed that this figure should have been higher, simply writing: “320.” This dispute highlights ongoing debates within the music industry regarding sales calculations, especially concerning streaming and merchandise bundles.
Prior to the album’s release, Carti expressed his dedication to the project, stating, “Man. This album is most definitely something that I am proud of. I just stay in the studio. That’s all I do. For me, it’s all about the music.”
Music is a diverse musical soundscape with collaborations from artists like Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Future, Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, and Travis Scott. The album’s exploration of various genres and Carti’s unique vocal delivery have been highlighted as standout elements.
According to an early forecast from HITSDailyDouble, the album will rack up an additional 120,000-140,000 units in its second week, which could be enough to hold onto its crown.
