R&B powerhouse and five-time Grammy nominee Tank is set to bring crooning to Broadway. The Hell’s Kitchen production team just announced that Tank will be stepping into the role of “Davis” for a strictly limited 13-week engagement, taking over from Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon, whose final performance is set for March 9. This move brings a new wave of soul, charisma, and raw vocal power to the Grammy Award-winning production, making it a must-see for theater and R&B fans.
With a career spanning 25 years, Tank is nothing short of an R&B legend. His eight #1 singles, from “When We” and “Can’t Let It Show” to “I Deserve” and “Slow,” have solidified his spot in the genre’s history. Not just a performer but a multi-platinum artist, songwriter, and producer, Tank has worked with the biggest names in the game, including Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Aaliyah, Fantasia, Jamie Foxx, and Jennifer Hudson.
Now, he’s taking that unmistakable voice and commanding stage presence to Broadway, blending his love for music and acting into one explosive performance.
“Stepping onto the Broadway stage is a dream come true,” Tank shared. “Music and acting have always been a part of my journey, and now, I get to bring them together in a whole new way. The energy of live theater is unmatched, and I’m honored to join this incredible cast and be part of telling this powerful story through Alicia Keys’ music. This transition is both thrilling and humbling, and I can’t wait to give audiences everything I’ve got!”
While he’s best known for serenading the world with his R&B ballads, Tank is no stranger to acting. He’s starred in major productions like Lifetime’s Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, HBO’s Togetherness, VH1’s Born Again Virgin, and BET’s The New Edition Story and The Bobby Brown Story. His ability to seamlessly move between music and film makes him a natural fit for Broadway, and this performance is set to showcase the full scope of his artistic range.
Hell’s Kitchen, inspired by Alicia Keys’ own life experiences, is directed by four-time Tony nominee Michael Greif, with choreography by Camille A. Brown and a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz. The musical blends Keys’ most iconic hits with brand-new music, telling a compelling story through soul-stirring vocals, intricate storytelling, and electrifying dance numbers.
