Skip Marley taps acclaimed Afro-futurist director Gianni Lee for a futuristic AI-assisted lyric video to his “Close (Remix)” featuring Ding Dong and Masicka. Released through Tuff Gong International and Def Jam Recordings, the innovative visual transforms the remix into an immersive experience that fuses dancehall vibes with next-gen visuals.
Set in a gritty, post-apocalyptic metropolis, the video takes viewers on a fast-paced ride through a futuristic cityscape dominated by humanoid dancers, motorbike packs, and footwork battles on burning asphalt. The result is a mesmerizing clip where dancehall culture is reimagined through Lee’s signature Afro-futurist lens, amplified by cutting-edge animation techniques.
Gianni Lee, a Philadelphia native with a reputation for pushing boundaries in both fashion and film, explained his process: “For the Skip Marley visual, I used AI in an intentionally artistic way—breaking down live-action footage, screen grabs, and found video to create a mosaic of animated, moving images. Every shot was selected with care, and the process was guided by a strong visual concept.”
Lee approached the project like a traditional film treatment, storyboarding scenes, sourcing his own footage, and then transforming it frame-by-frame using advanced AI prompts. The end result is an intricately layered sequence of animated visuals that pulse with the emotion and energy of the track.
“The goal was to keep the viewer visually stimulated while also creating something cohesive that spoke to the emotion of the music,” he added. “I treated AI not just as a generator, but as a collaborator—one that responds to vision, direction, and detail.”
The “Close (Remix)” itself brings together Skip Marley’s soulful vocals with Masicka’s gritty delivery and Ding Dong’s party-starting charisma, blending reggae, dancehall, and trap-infused rhythms into a melodic soundscape.
