The decades-long tension between rap icon Snoop Dogg and former Death Row Records boss Suge Knight has reignited, with Suge making a serious accusation that has everyone standing at attention. The incarcerated former mogul recently claimed that Snoop Dogg played a role in efforts to bail out Duane “Keefe D” Davis, the man currently facing charges in connection with Tupac Shakur’s 1996 murder. However, Snoop has swiftly shut down these allegations, dismissing them as baseless and rooted in Suge’s long-standing resentment over Snoop’s acquisition of Death Row Records.
Suge Knight, currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter, has been vocal about his opinions on Keefe D’s arrest and trial. In a recent phone interview, Knight claimed that Snoop was financially backing efforts to secure Keefe D’s release, insinuating that the legendary West Coast rapper was involved in protecting the man accused of being connected to 2Pac’s assassination.
Keefe D, a former gang affiliate, has long been linked to Shakur’s murder due to past interviews in which he claimed inside knowledge about the fatal Las Vegas shooting. Authorities believe he was involved in orchestrating the attack that led to the untimely death of the hip-hop legend. His arrest in September 2023 reignited public debate over who was truly responsible for 2Pac’s murder, and now, Suge’s new claims add another layer of dispute to the case.
Snoop Dogg, once one of Death Row’s most prominent artists, wasted no time dismissing Suge’s statements. Sources close to the “Gin and Juice” rapper insist that he has no involvement in Keefe D’s legal battle and that Suge’s allegations are nothing more than an attempt to stir up unnecessary drama.
“This is just another example of Suge trying to drag Snoop into his mess,” a source close to the rapper said. “Ever since Snoop took over Death Row, Suge has been bitter. He doesn’t want to see Snoop succeed with the label he once controlled.”
In 2022, Snoop Dogg acquired Death Row Records, the label that helped launch his career in the early ’90s. His purchase of the brand was widely celebrated, as he vowed to honor Death Row’s legacy while bringing it into the digital streaming era. However, Suge has been critical of Snoop’s leadership, arguing that he should have been consulted before the transaction was finalized.
Snoop and Suge’s relationship has been turbulent for years. They were once close collaborators, with Snoop rising to superstardom under the Death Row umbrella alongside Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur. However, after 2Pac’s murder in 1996 and growing concerns over Suge’s management style and alleged criminal ties, Snoop distanced himself from the label.
In the early 2000s, Snoop openly criticized Suge, even dissing him on record. At one point, their feud nearly turned violent, with Suge’s reputation for intimidation and street ties making their conflict a genuine concern. However, over the years, the tension seemed to subside, at least until Snoop took ownership of Death Row.
While Snoop appears unbothered by Suge’s latest claims, the accusations have only fueled more speculation about the actual events surrounding 2Pac’s death. Whether Suge has actual evidence or is grasping at straws remains unclear, but one thing is certain, this longstanding feud between two of hip-hop’s most infamous figures is far from over.
