Joeboy Releases Soulful New Single “Taxi Driver;” Readies ‘Viva Lavida’ Album

Nigerian Afrobeats star Joeboy is stepping into a new era with the announcement of his highly anticipated third studio album, Viva Lavida, dropping Friday, March 28, via his imprint Young Legend, in partnership with Warner Music Africa. To build anticipation around the release, Joeboy unwraps the project’s lead single, “Taxi Driver,” a smooth, melodic, and groovy offering produced by Xtofa and Tempoe.

According to a press release, Joeboy has been setting the stage for this release with a creative rollout, transforming himself into an actual taxi driver in Lagos. In a series of short clips, he’s been giving high-profile Nigerian personalities rides through the city. This unique approach has drummed up excitement while giving fans a glimpse into the inspiration behind his latest track.

“There’s something uniquely intimate about the conversations that happen in the back of a taxi. People open up in ways they might not elsewhere, sharing their deepest thoughts and relationship stories,” Joeboy explains. “‘Taxi Driver’ captures those moments of vulnerability and connection, set against the backdrop of Lagos, a city that never sleeps.”

Built on an atmospheric, Afrobeats-inspired soundscape, ‘Taxi Driver’ follows his recent release, “SMH.” The song is a soulful, slow-burning reflection on love, loss, and human connection.

Joeboy’s upcoming album Viva Lavida translates to “Live Life,” a 13-track journey through self-discovery, triumphs, and emotional experiences. He offers fans a project that encourages joy, healing, and personal growth.

“Life is unpredictable, and bad times are inevitable, but the one thing you can control is how you react and live,” Joeboy says. “I choose to live free. No matter how many times I get my heart broken, no matter whether I succeed or fail in life and love, Viva Lavida!”

JoeBoy is on his 2025 world tour, launched in January with sold-out shows across Australia. The trek will continue its global takeover, with stops in Copenhagen, Rome, Milan, Stockholm, and Amsterdam, before making its way to the UK in June for headline performances in Manchester, London, Birmingham, and Leicester.

In 2024, JoeBoy launched his Lagos-based label, Young Legend, in partnership with Warner Music Africa. In less than a year, the label’s releases have already amassed 80 million streams across DSPs, reinforcing Joeboy’s powerful influence in the game.

With Viva Lavida on the horizon and ‘Taxi Driver’ setting the tone for what’s to come, Joeboy is making his case to elevate Afrobeats.
