The legal drama between Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez is far from over. While Lanez is already serving a 10-year sentence for shooting the Houston rapper in 2020, Megan is now asking the court to hold him in contempt over what her legal team is calling “disruptive, inflammatory, and inconsistent with the basic norms of civil litigation” behavior during a recent deposition.
According to court documents filed by Megan’s attorney, Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, allegedly caused multiple delays and acted uncooperatively during a deposition related to Megan’s civil defamation lawsuit against blogger Milagro Cooper. Megan accuses Cooper of spreading deepfake pornography and defamatory lies about her online at the alleged direction of Lanez.
In the motion, Megan’s legal team claims Lanez played games with basic language, acting as though he didn’t understand common terms like “discuss” and “approve.” Lanez is also being accused of making personal and unprofessional insults toward Megan’s attorney. Notably, the filing says Lanez mocked the attorney’s appearance, commenting on their hair dye and telling them to bring a hairbrush next time.
Adding another layer to the situation, Megan’s team submitted an email from Lanez’s criminal appeal attorneys, who made it clear they do not represent him in this civil case. The email also stated they would not object to a contempt motion being filed.
This civil suit stems from Megan’s ongoing battle against online harassment and false narratives since the 2020 shooting. Her lawyers are now pressing the court to take disciplinary action against Lanez, arguing his deposition conduct warrants consequences.
Tory Lanez, who has already been convicted of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023. Earlier this year, Megan was granted a restraining order against him, telling the court she hasn’t felt safe or at peace since the night she was shot.
Lanez has not publicly responded to the allegations made about his behavior during the deposition.
