HitsCulture is a hip-hop, R&B, and Black music publication built on a simple conviction: the algorithm is a bad tastemaker. It can tell you what is popular. It cannot tell you what matters, what lasts, or what a moment actually means. That gap is our whole reason for existing.
We are not an aggregator. We do not wait for the mainstream to hand down a verdict and then repackage it a day late. We lead with our own read, earn it with reporting, and trust you to follow a real argument. The goal is to be the primary reference in this culture, the outlet others cite, not the one doing the citing.
What We Do Differently
We take a position. Every ranking, review, and analysis carries a point of view. When we crown one party record over the safe, monument-shaped favorite, or call an artist the genre's best-kept secret before the awards catch up, we plant the flag and defend it. Consensus is easy. We are more interested in being right, and being early.
We show the math. When a viral graphic claims someone dethroned a legend, we do the arithmetic the meme skips. We decode the contracts, the certifications, the streaming formulas, and the business maneuvers most coverage treats as background noise. Fans and creators deserve to understand the machinery, not just the headline.
We connect the dots backward. Today's hit has a lineage. We trace the DNA of the modern sound to the artists, records, and moments that built it, so the history carries forward instead of getting lost.

Founded by Gary Gentles
HitsCulture was created by Gary Gentles, the original founder and creator of Singersroom.com, one of the most influential R&B platforms of the digital era. Launched in 2006, Singersroom did something almost no one else was doing at the time: it took Rhythm & Blues seriously as its own world, not a footnote to hip-hop. It went on to win a Soul Train Award for Best Soul Site, earned a nod from XXL as one of the internet's top music sources, and spent years breaking and championing artists before the mainstream caught on.
That instinct, spotting what matters before the algorithm does, is the DNA HitsCulture is built on. Gentles has spent nearly two decades at the intersection of music, media, and technology, and HitsCulture is the next chapter of a career devoted to a single belief: that Black music deserves coverage as sharp, as informed, and as passionate as the culture that makes it.
