B2K will release Eclipse on November 6, the group's first full-length studio album since Pandemonium! arrived in December 2002. Omarion, J-Boog, Raz-B and Lil Fizz confirmed the date on Instagram with a caption that read, in part, "Studio locked. Album finished!"
The announcement puts a date on a project that was still listed only as "this fall" when HitsCulture covered the release of B2K's comeback single "Mileage" in July. That song arrived July 17, twenty-five years to the day after the group's debut "Uh Huh," with production from Ethos and writing help from Ant Clemons.
Since then the group has posted studio footage with Sean Garrett, the songwriter and producer whose credits include Usher's "Yeah!" and Beyoncé's "Check On It," working on material for the album. BPC Music Group is releasing Eclipse, and no tracklist or guest list has been announced with less than four weeks to go.
In a conversation with YAMS Magazine published October 8, the members described an album that was supposed to arrive in two halves. Fizz said they had planned to split the project before delays pushed it back, at which point the group decided fans should get the whole thing at once. Omarion floated the possibility of bonus tracks on top of it. Fizz put the start of recording at almost a year ago, with each member bringing in records to play for the others before "Mileage" came together on the spot.
J-Boog tied the new songs to the members' adult lives, saying they grew out of catch-up conversations about relationships and dating once the four were back in a room together. He also pointed back to the Epic Records years, when Sony shaped how four teenagers were branded and sold. "Finally, we're in the driver's seat," he told the magazine about the new arrangement. Raz-B described the return as a full-circle moment that picks up where the group left off.
Omarion, who came up with the album title, connected it to the cycles of the moon and to the group's plan to overshadow the competition. He also singled out a song called "Today" that deals with letting go and forgiveness. Fizz confirmed a sequel to "Boys for Life," the record he wrote about his groupmates two decades ago, built on a track called "Proud" from a beat pack Eric Bellinger sent him.
B2K split in early 2004, soon after You Got Served reached theaters, and the four did not tour together again until the 2019 Millennium Tour. This year brought the Boys 4 Life Tour, an arena run with Bow Wow and B5 produced by the Black Promoters Collective. In June came a Verzuz against Pretty Ricky, where the group previewed "Mileage" weeks before releasing it.
Omarion has kept his solo career running alongside all of it. His album O2-Part 1 came out June 26, and in August he released the video for "Reasons," a title Atlantic once attached to an Omarion album it announced in 2015 and never released.
Eclipse is scheduled for streaming and download on Friday, November 6, almost 24 years after Pandemonium!, with all four members now in their early forties and, by J-Boog's account, making the calls themselves.
