Boosie Badazz and Webbie are reuniting for Back At It, their first joint project credited to the two Baton Rouge rappers since 2004. Announced Tuesday, Sept. 29, the mixtape is scheduled for release Oct. 24, following the pair’s Southern Truth Tour stops from Jacksonville to Columbus, Ohio.

The project follows Ghetto Stories, released by Trill Entertainment in 2003, and Gangsta Musik, which arrived the following year. Boosie and Webbie have appeared together on numerous releases since then, including three Trill Fam compilations, but those projects also featured Foxx, Big Head, Lil Trill and other label artists.

Webbie first appeared in Boosie’s catalog on For My Thugz, the 2002 album released independently under the Lil Boosie name. Their 2003 album Ghetto Stories established the duo, while Gangsta Musik produced songs such as “Bad Bitch” and “Swerve,” both later featured in the 2005 film Hustle & Flow.

Trill’s distribution agreement with Asylum Records moved both rappers into the major-label system. Boosie’s Bad Azz, released Oct. 24, 2006, reached No. 18 on the Billboard 200 and included Webbie on four songs, including “I Represent,” “Exciting” and “Smoking on Purple.” Webbie’s 2007 single “Independent,” featuring Boosie and Lil Phat, reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the rap chart.

Trill Entertainment Presents: Survival of the Fittest arrived May 15, 2007, and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200. Boosie, Webbie, Foxx and Big Head shared the album, while “Swangin” was credited to Boosie and Webbie alone. Mouse On Tha Track produced several of the project’s group songs, including “Adios,” “Same Old Shit” and the remix of “Wipe Me Down.”

Mouse later produced “Better Believe It,” the lead single from Boosie’s Superbad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz, which also featured Webbie and Young Jeezy. Trill’s second compilation, All or Nothing, was released Nov. 9, 2010, while Boosie was serving a prison sentence. He returned to the studio in March 2014.

After Boosie’s release, the two reunited on “Show Da World,” which reached No. 28 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Webbie also appeared on Boosie’s Touch Down 2 Cause Hell in 2015, contributing to “On That Level” and “Hip Hop Hooray.” Boosie later included “Webbie I Remember” on his 2017 double album BooPac.

“To a generation, I was their 2Pac. What 2Pac did to me is he touched me with his music.”

Boosie has since released collaborative projects with other artists, including Badazz MO3, his 2020 album with the late Dallas rapper MO3, and In House 2: Boosie and the Beast with Jit the Beast.

Webbie’s catalog includes six installments of the Savage Life series, with the sixth released in 2020 through Webbie Music. The Southern Truth Tour brought the longtime partners back to the same stage this summer. The run included a July 11 performance at Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts and an Aug. 29 show at KEMBA Live! in Columbus, presented by Yung Fly Entertainment. Pleasure P handled the R&B portion of the Columbus concert.

The reunion arrives as Baton Rouge rap continues to expand nationally. NBA YoungBoy, a north Baton Rouge native, released MASA in July 2025 and later launched a 42-date headlining tour. According to WAFB, he became the first Baton Rouge artist to sell out more than 40 arenas on one tour.

The new mixtape will clarify how Boosie and Webbie view their shared history in the current rap landscape. Neither artist has announced producers, guests, a label or a distributor. Those details will show whether Back At It revisits the Trill-era sound associated with Mouse On Tha Track and BJ or connects with younger Baton Rouge artists.

Boosie has released music through Bad Azz Music Syndicate, while Webbie has used Webbie Music. Regardless of its distribution, Back At It will mark the first Boosie and Webbie project alone in more than two decades, arriving Oct. 24, 22 years after Gangsta Musik.
