Takeoff was 28 when he was shot in the head outside 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston at about 2:30 a.m. on November 1, 2022. Police said the gunfire grew out of an argument after a high-stakes dice game he had no part in, and they have described him ever since as an unarmed bystander.
Four years and three days later, the man charged with killing him still has not faced a jury. Harris County court records in The State of Texas vs. Patrick Xavier Clark now set the trial for April 15, 2027, wiping out a schedule that had jury selection opening Thursday (Nov 5).
The new date landed in the same stretch that Quavo posted a trailer for SATCHAMO built around his nephew's voice and Offset finally pinned GMFU to November 13. The two surviving members of Migos now head into the holidays with solo albums on deck and a group record pointed toward January. The murder case will not reach a courtroom until spring.
The Case Against Patrick Xavier Clark
Clark, a Houston DJ, was arrested on December 1, 2022, and charged with murder. Prosecutors allege that surveillance video shows him firing toward a group of people, and investigators say his fingerprints turned up on a wine bottle left near the scene. He has pleaded not guilty and could face life in prison if convicted.
His defense has been rebuilt over the past eight months. In March he dropped attorney Letitia Quinones-Hollins and brought on Kent Schaffer, with Dan Cogdell and Anthony Osso joining the team. In September the new lawyers asked the court to let their own expert independently test the bullets and other evidence held by Houston police.
Schaffer laid out the reason for the delay in a statement to XXL: "Both sides had numerous trial conflicts, and the state recently turned over a large amount of evidence that had not been seen by Mr. Clark's previous counsel. While there is nothing harmful in that evidence, we still need time to review it. We still fully expect to prevail."
A second legal fight over that night is moving on a separate track. Takeoff's mother, Titania Davenport, who is also Quavo's sister, sued 810 Billiards & Bowling and settled in 2025. The fight now runs between her and Takeoff's father, Kenneth Ball, who reportedly believes half of the payout belongs to him, while Davenport says she raised her son largely on her own. In court documents obtained by TMZ, she asked to move the case from Texas to Georgia because key witnesses, Quavo and Offset among them, live in the Atlanta area.
Quavo Puts Takeoff Back at the Center
Quavo marked the anniversary with a short trailer on Instagram on November 3. It names no release date and lists no guests. What it carries instead is Takeoff's voice, footage of a rocket lifting off the pad, and a few seconds of an unreleased song in which Quavo's Auto-Tuned vocal rides a dark, dramatic backing.
The rocket has stood in for Takeoff since 2022, and it was his long before that, going back to his 2018 solo debut The Last Rocket. Quavo titled his 2023 album Rocket Power and dedicated it to his nephew, and soon after the shooting he started The Rocket Foundation, a nonprofit built to fight gun violence. The last full project the two made together, Only Built for Infinity Links under the name Unc & Phew, came out on October 7, 2022, less than four weeks before Takeoff was killed.
SATCHAMO borrows its name from Louis Armstrong, and Quavo has been circling it for well over a year, describing it in 2025 as his third solo album, due through Quality Control. Pharrell Williams got the next slot instead. QRÖMELIFE arrived October 2 with Pharrell producing all 14 tracks, and it opened outside the top 100 of the Billboard 200.
Within weeks of that debut, Quavo was posting a whiteboard with 13 SATCHAMO titles crossed out and every feature hidden. The trailer followed on the Tuesday after the anniversary, and the first voice anyone hears in the new campaign belongs to Takeoff.
Offset Finally Has a Date
Offset spent October on a moving calendar of his own. He first announced GMFU for October 23 through Motown, and that Friday passed with nothing on streaming services. By that evening he had posted "GMFU 11:13" on Instagram, and on November 3 he confirmed the November 13 release and shared the cover art.
The clearest preview so far is "Every Night," which arrived in early October and pairs Offset with Don Toliver over a sample of Jodeci's 1995 single "Freek'n You." It followed "Something I Need," the single he promoted in September by handing out a phone number for his late-night NEED FM advice line, which no announcement has yet tied to the album.
GMFU will be his third full-length in roughly 15 months. Kiari opened at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 in August 2025. He followed it that Halloween with Haunted by Fame, a surprise set recorded on the road with YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
The new date puts GMFU on a Friday the 13th crowded with veterans, including Westside Gunn's HEELMATIC through Mass Appeal. Offset has said nothing publicly about why October 23 slipped, and the November 3 post that settled the question offered the date and the artwork without a word of explanation.
The Migos Album Still Unmade
Migos have not released a group album since Culture III in June 2021, the last one Takeoff made with them. The road back started in June 2023, when Quavo and Offset shared the BET Awards stage for a tribute to Takeoff, their first performance together since his death. This May they revived the group's Instagram account, and studio footage of the pair surfaced not long after. In September Quavo confirmed plans for one final Migos album and a tour, with Takeoff expected to appear through vocals he left behind. Around the same time, he said in an interview that losing his nephew had eased the friction between him and Offset. It was the same rift that sent Quavo and Takeoff out on their own as Unc & Phew in 2022, while Offset kept working solo.
He went further on the Baller Alert Show that month. "We almost ready to turn it in too," Quavo said, before pointing to January, the month the group marks as its anniversary, as a possible window for something to arrive.
No title, track list or release date has followed, and the name Culture 4 has floated around online without either rapper attaching it to anything.
If January holds, the record meant to close out Migos would reach streaming services about three months before a Harris County jury is seated to hear how Takeoff died. Quavo and Offset could also be called as witnesses in the settlement dispute, depending on where a judge decides that case belongs.
The nearest date on the calendar is Offset's, nine days out. Clark's lawyers have until April 15 to work through the evidence the state handed over, and Quavo still has not said when SATCHAMO will arrive. Davenport's fight with Takeoff's father is waiting on a judge to decide which state should hear it.
