On Tuesday (Sept 15), Atlanta rapper Offset launched a late-night advice hotline called NEED FM and posted a video of himself fielding calls on air. The number he gave out, 470-742-6949, is open to anyone who wants his take on relationships, money or whatever else is keeping them up. "Some of y'all need closure, some of y'all need some answers and some of y'all just need somebody to tell y'all what really going on," he said in the clip.
The hotline is the loudest piece of the campaign for "Something I Need," his first solo offering in nearly a year, which arrives Friday, September 18, with no album announced behind it. Its cover shows Offset standing in open water with his arms around a woman. A teaser posted Monday opened on a boat under a gray sky before cutting to a yacht crowded with women. The caption on those posts read "SHE AIN'T MINE… JUST SOMETHING I NEED."
Offset's last full rollout, for Kiari in August 2025, landed at No. 16 on the Billboard 200. His debut, Father of 4, had opened at No. 4 in 2019 on 89,000 units, and Set It Off reached No. 5 in 2023 with 70,000.
Two months after Kiari, he skipped the buildup process and teased Haunted by Fame for a few hours before it landed at midnight on Halloween. The 11 songs were cut during his arena tour with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, who shares the tracklist with NoCap and Lil Dump.
On April 6 of this year, Offset was shot in the valet area outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and hospitalized with what police called non-life-threatening injuries. Five days later he was wheeled to center stage at the University of Arkansas's Rowfest, where he stood up and performed a set that included Migos' "Bad and Boujee."
Migos haven't released an album since Culture III debuted at No. 2 in June 2021, the last one Takeoff made with the group. Tension between Quavo and Offset split the trio after that, and by October 2022 Quavo and Takeoff were releasing Only Built for Infinity Links as a duo. On Nov. 1 of that year, Takeoff was shot and killed outside 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston.
Quavo and Offset shared a stage at the 2023 BET Awards, performing "Hotel Lobby" and "Bad and Boujee" in Takeoff's honor, but reunion talk didn't firm up until late April of this year. Quavo posted an Instagram Story mapping out a posthumous Takeoff album, a second Unc N Phew project and a last Migos record under the line "AINT NO NEW CHAPTER JUST THE NEXT ONE!!!" Offset answered within hours with a photo of all three members captioned "On dat," and by early May the two had been spotted in the studio together.
Quavo made the plan public early this month with DJ Greg Street on Atlanta's V-103. "We coming back. We're going to do it one more time," he said. "Long live the Rocket … There's more. We going to tour. We going to do it right." In a Hot 97 interview with Nessa posted Thursday (Sept 10), he talked about how they plan to carry his nephew into the music. "At the same time, we missing the Rocket, so we want to make sure we honor him and make sure we have the right tools to make the music sound original as if he was here," he said.
No title, release date or track list has surfaced. Billboard reports that Takeoff's vocals are expected to appear, though Quavo's April post also named a separate Takeoff project, and neither surviving member has said how that archive will be divided.
Patrick Xavier Clark, the Houston DJ charged with murder in Takeoff's death, is scheduled to go on trial November 9, with jury selection opening November 5. Police have said Takeoff took no part in the dice game or the argument that preceded the gunfire. A detective described video of Clark shooting in Takeoff's direction with "a gun in one hand, wine bottle in another hand," and prosecutors say his fingerprints turned up on the bottle left behind. Clark has pleaded not guilty and is free on a $1 million bond. On Monday (Sept 14), TMZ reported that he had filed a motion asking for an independent expert to examine evidence Houston police collected, including the bullets that killed Takeoff. The case also drew one of 392 Brady notices the Harris County District Attorney's Office filed in 2024 after the Houston Forensic Science Center fired an analyst who had worked on it. The center said the errors cited against her came in proficiency testing, not casework.
Before any of that, Quavo's Pharrell Williams executive-produced QRÖMELIFE arrives October 2 through Quality Control and Motown, a 14-song set that is his third solo album and first full-length since Rocket Power in 2023. "HAAVIN" opened Pharrell's Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2027 men's show in Paris back in June, and "Trance (Walk It Down)" followed in August.
The newest single, "Backwards," is an Atlanta roll call with T.I. that dropped September 11, days after Quavo debuted it live at WWE's Sunday Night Main Event in his hometown.
Quavo told V-103 the sessions didn't stay in one room. "This man got us recording on yachts in the middle of the ocean and Louis V headquarters, you seeing every new bag, one of one," he said.
Offset's single lands Friday and Quavo's album two weeks later, while the Migos album still has no date.
