About This Release
Maliibu Miitch put out Sailor Goon, her debut album, through MNRK Music Group on Friday (Oct 30), ending a long wait for a full project from the South Bronx rapper. For years her name stayed in rotation through freestyles, guest spots and one-off records while industry situations kept a proper album from reaching the shelves.
The ten tracks run on the split she has always worked from, with Maliibu handling the glossy hooks and Miitch taking the verses with a harder edge. Rich The Kid lands on “Do A Trick” and P.C. joins “BBM,” two of the singles that built toward the release alongside “Wif3y,” where she sets her terms plainly: “if you ain't spending money, how I'ma know if you like me.” On “Elevators,” she sets the bars aside and leans on her singing voice.
The closer, “Been Wavey,” puts her alongside Lady London and Ms Hustle, three New York lyricists trading verses on one record. It caps an MNRK run that began with the Hitmaka-produced “Benjamin Crew” featuring Jeremih, a single that does not appear on the album.
