Gunna is ready to spend a little creative capital on his next chapter.
The Atlanta rapper will release “Pop It” on Friday, October 9, giving listeners their first official preview of his forthcoming album, SPLURGE. The Grammy-nominated emcee revealed the title and artwork Monday, October 5, and coupled the announcement with a brief video preview of the song.
The single turns what had been a developing album into an actual rollout. Gunna revealed SPLURGE in September but deliberately stopped short of putting the project on a calendar. During an interview discussing the album, he said it could arrive in October if he felt it was ready, while making clear that he had no firm release date. That remains the case: There is still no confirmed date, tracklist or feature list for SPLURGE.
“Pop It,” however, is concrete, and for now, October belongs to the single.
SPLURGE will follow Gunna's 2025 album The Last Wun, which closed a significant stretch of his recording career. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Rather than hurrying into another LP, Gunna spent much of the period since expanding the world surrounding his music.
Fitness has become particularly visible. His WUNNA Run Club and WUNNA Run 5K have placed running and wellness inside his public identity, while partnerships and projects have connected him with Peloton, Cymbiotika and Under Armour. His community work through Gunna's Great Giveaway has continued alongside those ventures. The official announcement for “Pop It” explicitly connects the new music to that broader period of personal and professional development.
That makes SPLURGE more interesting than a routine follow-up. Gunna has described the project as an attempt to introduce what he called an “upper-echelon artist” who has moved to another level. In the same interview, he resisted forcing a deadline onto that evolution, saying, “If I feel ready, it could come out next month. But if I'm not ready, I'm not ready yet. I don't have a date,” according to Power 105.1.
The first glimpse of “Pop It” suggests Gunna is not separating those worlds: The teaser shows him performing incline push-ups against the trunk of a convertible while the record plays, folding the fitness imagery that has become increasingly associated with him directly into the music campaign.
There is also a useful tension in the album's title. SPLURGE evokes excess, but Gunna's recent public presentation has leaned toward discipline: running, training, wellness and carefully constructed partnerships. Whether that contrast becomes part of the album's music, visuals and larger concept is one of the more compelling questions surrounding the rollout.
“Pop It” is scheduled for release Friday, October 9.
