Lucky Daye would rather have the uncomfortable conversation than watch a relationship dissipate in silence.
That tension drives his new single “Talk to Me,” released Friday (Oct. 2) as the latest sample of his forthcoming album ALOUD!. The 15-track project arrives October 16 via Warner Records and will feature Leon Thomas, Pusha T, Muni Long, Akeem Ali and Atlanta rock band The Paradox.
Built around psychedelic guitar, ’80s-inspired percussion and a groove that keeps moving underneath Daye’s plea, “Talk to Me” finds the singer trying to reopen communication before a relationship reaches the point of no return. Rather than dress the moment up as uncomplicated romance, Daye sings from the less comfortable space where pride, desire and uncertainty are all competing for the last word.
The song follows “Nowhere Fast,” Daye’s first single after signing with Warner Records, and his Leon Thomas collaboration “Fly U Out.” “Nowhere Fast” has also been gaining ground at Adult R&B radio, reaching No. 15 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in late September.
The larger idea behind ALOUD! comes from a play on two words that sound the same but carry very different implications: “allowed” and “aloud.” Daye describes the album as an exercise in creative freedom, built around abandoning the need for permission before following an artistic instinct.
“ALOUD! is really about being allowed to be exactly who you are. For me, it means speaking your truth, breaking the rules that don’t serve you, and not shrinking yourself because of how somebody else might see you,” Daye said in a statement announcing the project.
That freedom will arrive with some formidable company. Leon Thomas appears on “Fly U Out,” Pusha T joins Daye on “Mouf Say,” Muni Long and The Paradox appear together on “Knockin,” and Akeem Ali guests on “Woman First.” Longtime collaborator D’Mile is also among the producers contributing to the album.
ALOUD! follows Daye’s 2024 album Algorithm, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. The Recording Academy lists Daye with 13 career Grammy nominations and two wins, including Best Traditional R&B Performance for “That’s You” at the 2025 ceremony. His other Grammy victory came for the 2021 project Table for Two, which won Best Progressive R&B Album.
Daye’s profile has remained visible well beyond his own releases. His collaboration with Teyana Taylor on “Hard Part” was nominated for Best Collaboration at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, while his September appearance at Billboard’s R&B Hip-Hop Live in Brooklyn put him at the closing end of a bill that also included Yung Miami, kwn, Destin Conrad, Samara Cyn and Skippa.
Two days before the album arrives, Daye will bring the new era to Los Angeles. The GRAMMY Museum has scheduled him for its The Drop series on October 14, where he will discuss ALOUD! and perform at the museum’s Ray Charles Rooftop Terrace.
