Vault releases usually arrive as research, a pile of outtakes with a press release attached, and this one is sequenced as a career instead. It opens on "I Am You" from 1977, cut at Sound 80 in Minneapolis when Prince was 19 and two years before his first public shows at the Capri Theater, and closes on a 2016 live take of "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" from the final year of his life. In between sit the 1981 original of "Tick Tick Bang" that predates the Graffiti Bridge version by nine years, "With This Tear" from the 1991 sessions, and "Stone" from 1995. Anyone curious about how the sound arrived should start at the 1977 recording and move forward in order.
