Why we’re listening
Mariah Dawne released “Make Room” with BAILEY on Friday (Oct. 16), putting the single out through her own Breaking Dawne Entertainment imprint and SRG-ILS (Virgin Music/UMG). The Shreveport-born singer-songwriter wrote the 3:12 track with Brandon Bailey and handed production to Emery Varrie III, and she positions it as the most exposed record she has made so far. Dawne calls the song an ode to the weight people choose to release, and she asks listeners to decide honestly whether what they carry is “beneficial, or binding.” In her telling, the heart builds compartments to hold everything it absorbs, and moving forward means taking stock of that baggage and clearing space within yourself first.
Away from the booth, Dawne works as a NICU nurse, belongs to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, and serves as a brand ambassador for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Love Music Stop Cancer campaign. Her recent run includes the two-part “Hold On Me,” whose second act brought in Raheem DeVaughn, along with “Pink Lemonade” featuring The Colleagues and this year’s “Won’t Let Go.” She has taken those records to The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Portia Show and a long list of local morning broadcasts from Chicago to Nashville, and she plans to keep singles coming ahead of a debut EP due in spring 2027.
