Work Dat (Remix)

Chicago singer Papa Jay pulled hometown rapper G Herbo onto a remix of his summer single “Work Dat,” which Epic Records released Friday (Oct. 16). Epic pitches the 3:46 version as a nod to Chicago’s jookin’ dance culture, with a new G Herbo verse set against the 808s that drove the original cut. The remix lands a few months after Papa Jay signed with the label, a deal that followed a run of independent singles going back to “I Ain’t Playin” in 2022.

Born Thaddeus J. Mixson, Papa Jay built his first audience on screen, playing Fahmarr McElrathbey in Disney’s “Safety,” appearing in “Creed III” and taking the recurring role of Spencer on “Reasonable Doubt.” The Epic announcement also lists Netflix’s “The Madness,” opposite Colman Domingo, among his credits and says his debut studio album is in the works.
