Mahalia signed to Asylum/Atlantic at 13, and "the 5 stages of heartbreak," released Friday (Oct 23), is her first record since that Warner deal ended, licensed to BMG with the master in her own name. She produced it with bAd entity, Lorenzo Taddei and Gabriëlle Stok, and calls it a debut "in so many ways" despite 14 years of releasing music.

The song walks through denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance after the end of a four-and-a-half-year relationship, in a year that took her from Jamaica, where she made the 2025 EP Luvergirl, to Los Angeles. Its video opens in a couples therapy session, and the single is the first look at a forthcoming album.
