Detroit has been exporting rappers at an absurd clip for five years, and Skilla Baby has worked as hard as anyone in that wave without getting the ceiling the city's best have gotten. He framed the album to XXL as one for the average man, and the cover leans on a 1994 photograph of Tupac Shakur in a wheelchair, an image he has tied to the 2025 shooting he survived. The risk is the guest list, since feature-heavy major-label albums from regional artists have a long history of sanding off the thing that made the artist worth signing in the first place. He is a good enough writer to survive that. The album trailer co-starred 50 Cent.
