Ten years after The Easy Truth, the Detroit producer and the Brooklyn writer run the partnership back on Luxury Tax, with every beat coming from Apollo Brown and every verse from Skyzoo. Apollo's dusty, soul-sampled drums have always left room for a rapper who packs his bars with detail, and Skyzoo treats a double entendre as a second storyline rather than a throwaway punchline. The advance singles "No Discounts," "God Given" and "Hear Me Out" arrived with that division of labor intact, and the full album is for listeners who still judge a rap record by its beat selection and its pen.
