Own Every Scar

Nardia’s Own Every Scar is a 10-song independent soul record built around resilience without turning that theme into empty uplift. Recorded across Melbourne, Nashville, Memphis and Los Angeles, the album moves through R&B, blues, jazz and funk while keeping Nardia’s forceful, emotionally direct vocal at the center. Songs including “There You Were,” “Thank You 4 Nothing” and “Sweet Love” trace different stages of love, disappointment and recovery, while the title track gives the project its clearest statement: scars are evidence of what was survived, not something to conceal.

The Memphis connection gives Own Every Scar additional weight without turning it into a retro exercise. Boo Mitchell of Royal Studios produced the horns and mixed the title track, bringing players including Marc Franklin, Lannie McMillan, Kameron Whalum and Kirk Smothers into an album otherwise shaped by producers Darin James, Mat Robb and Ivan Khatchoyan. That cross-continental approach suits an artist whose U.S. profile has been steadily expanding since she reached the Top 5 at the 2025 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Own Every Scar sounds like Nardia consolidating those experiences into a record that connects contemporary independent R&B with the live-band traditions of Southern soul and blues.
