Why we’re listening

Aaron Frazer wrote and recorded the six songs on Corners between tours over the past year, bouncing between studios in South Central, Riverside, Pasadena and Lincoln Heights until the title named itself. Tommy Brenneck, Mayer Hawthorne, Gabe Roth, Kelly Finnegan, Blake Rhein, Anthony Masino and Cold Diamond & Mink all contributed to sessions Frazer describes as pressure-free, with no tour to time the release around. The writing stays on romance at every stage, and "Same Old Game" borrows the childhood-crush framing of the Intruders' "Cowboys to Girls," a lineage Frazer claims himself. Closer "Tell Me" pushes back on modern dating's performative cool, or as Frazer puts it, "Being nonchalant is overrated when you're into someone."

Frazer pictures these songs at car shows, cookouts and dance floors, and four of them are headed to 45 through Colemine, the Ohio label that has pressed his singles since the Introducing… era. "Paint the Picture" backed with "Back Into the World" lands November 13, and "Same Old Game" backed with "Let Your Love Grow" follows December 4.
