Grammy winner John Legend built two decades of catalog on piano ballads, and “Daylight” steps off that path without making a fuss about it. Pharrell Williams produced it, laying a knocking 808 beneath Legend’s piano chords while he sings about love in a register that never has to push. This is the first listen from Muse, his eleventh album, which Pharrell produced in full and co-wrote at his studio inside Louis Vuitton’s Paris headquarters.
