The Heart of the Matter

Louis York is the songwriter-producer pairing of Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony, and The Heart of the Matter arrives through Weirdo Workshop, the company the two built for themselves after years of writing for other artists. It is their third album since forming in 2015, following American Griots in 2019 and Songs with Friends in 2024, and the Apple Music listing runs 14 songs across 59 minutes.

The rollout ran through four singles, “Starlight,” “I Found A Home,” “The Ballad Of A Broken Man” and “Favorite Sweater,” the last of which Apple dates to October 14. The duo called “Favorite Sweater” “a massive joy bomb” and said that a closer listen turns up a call to rebel against apathy and despair.
