Sixteen weeks after Joey Quiñones released Inna Soul Steady Situation, a rocksteady-leaning solo debut cut with a two-person crew, Thee Sinseers return to Colemine with Love Stories. The LP credits nine band members alongside session players on violin, viola, keys, drums and lap steel, and newcomer Skip Heller wrote the string arrangements.

Quiñones, who produced the record before the band turned the mix over to Kelly Finnigan, says it "didn't feel like we were making soul music at any point." The album art pulls from family photos of the members' parents, and not every couple pictured is still together.
