For seven years, the question around Cardi B was when the second album would finally come. One year after Am I the Drama? answered it, Cardi is already trying to make sure the third album creates a different kind of conversation.

The Hip Hop star says her third studio album is underway, with about two songs she likes already recorded and 2027 in mind for the release. Speaking with The Breakfast Club around her Sept. 18 appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, she said she plans to step away from other commitments later this year and concentrate on recording.

For the pending opus, Cardi has not announced a title, track list, lead single or production lineup, and two songs are not evidence of a finished album. What she has confirmed is narrower and more useful: another album is now an active project, recording has begun, and she does not intend to repeat the extended wait that separated her first two studio LPs.

During the backstage conversation, Cardi put it plainly: "I am doing a new album."

Cardi released Invasion of Privacy in April 2018, and the debut went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The album also won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2019. Her follow-up, Am I the Drama?, did not arrive until Sept. 19, 2025, more than seven years later. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 200,000 equivalent album units, giving Cardi her second chart-topping studio album.

In December 2025, she said she wanted to stop overthinking future music and pay closer attention to the records that came together naturally. She described some of the Am I the Drama? songs that connected most strongly with listeners as songs she made without laboring over every decision.

For the new LP, she says she has material she likes, and she intends to create a more concentrated period for finishing the project. Her explanation was concise: "I just got this confidence."

That confidence is arriving after a full year of activity. Cardi supported Am I the Drama? with the Little Miss Drama Tour earlier this year, continued making festival appearances and returned with new music in July. HitsCulture covered "AH HA" as her first single of 2026, a release that kept the album cycle from simply ending when the tour did.

The important question now is whether "AH HA" belongs to the next album or simply sits between eras. What is clear is that the seven-year wait is no longer the model Cardi is following.
